The Rest of the SLP Prizeless Story

Yes, we've been as anxious as you to find out what effect our decision to stop giving out weekly prizes for summer would be.  Today we shook out the preliminary stats and....

wait for it......

wait for it....

wait for it....

wait for it....

wait for it....

...no difference!!!!!!!!!!!

We had as many preschool and school-agers coming back for return visits this year when we built our robot as we did when we gave out weekly doo-dads.

Score!!!!

The team felt that with the simplified program we had more time for interactions with the kids and a less stressful summer.  We already have plans in mind for next year to help increase interest in the donation part of the program (three caped superheroes representing three different charities for kids to choose to put their sticker on).

It's good to see these results and put the final cap on a busy summer and great to know our adventure was successful. Onward!

You can read about our journey here, here and here!

  1. WOO HOOOOO!!! Congratulations! And thank you so much for keeping us updated. We are going to try this next year, thanks to your guidance and inspiration. Your ideas are practical and fun. Hopefully we can successfuly model our program after yours! Super Heroes should be really fun if we do it the way you've laid it out here!

  5. We dropped the prizes too this year our numbers were a bit down but I'm inclined to chalk that up to a snafu with the schools and summer reading information not getting distributed properly. One thing we did want to do was increase participation by very young children and we did accomplish that by a small percentage but it is a start.

By the way I love your Anxiety Girl graphic I'm sure she works on my staff right along side Let's Try It Girl always ready to try anything new. Which makes for some fun staff meetings!
